Education
Lifelong Learning
Jewish education for all ages is one of our greatest accomplishments. From our "Gan-sters" preschool to our Adult Education series, our goal is to expand our knowledge and understanding of the Jewish religion and what it means to us as individuals and as a community.
Our members come to us from all different backgrounds and experiences, religiously, socially, economically and emotionally. Many of us are just starting to discover our Judaism and our thirst for knowledge about our heritage, culture, history and religion.
Our Jewish education and exploration is an ongoing journey. It is for these reasons that we strive to offer a variety of adult education classes. We hope to offer something of interest for everyone, and to encourage our members and friends to search for deeper meaning and understanding through study and reflection.
Join us in our quest for knowledge, understanding, and a connection to our community, our people, and our commitment to Judaism and the land of Israel.

Community
In Salem, where the Jewish population is small, many of our members look to TBS as a place where we can connect with other Jews regardless of our individual level of observance.
In addition to worshipping together, we form strong bonds of friendship through community activities, social groups, and volunteering.
Through our community activities, we can also join together to reach out to theĀ general publicĀ to raise awareness regarding issues effecting us as Jews, and as members of the greater Salem community.

Volunteerism
Member participation is the backbone of Temple Beth Sholom. Your special talents are welcome and needed. Getting involved is a wonderful way to enhance your TBS experience, to meet new people, and to work together towards a stronger community.
It takes a great number of volunteers to keep our community going and growing. Please take a minute to peruse the committee page and contact the TBS office for more information.
We have a wide variety of groups available for all ages, so everyone is sure to find something that will interest them!

Social Action
Tikkun Olam
The Hebrew expression Tikkun Olam refers to helping to repair and better the world. The mission of the Tikkun Olam Committee is to provide TBS members with ongoing information and volunteer opportunities to help this important and central tenet of Judaism. The Tikkun Olum steering committee develops and facilitates projects and educational events such as collection of food for the Polk-Marion Food Share, clothes for local women's shelters, school supplies for local foster children, and more.
The steering committee also organizes educational workshops and training topics that vary according to community interest. These may include home ecology, volunteer education, working with special needs, social action, and a Tikkun Olam youth seminar.
We welcome you to share your values, talent and enthusiasm through the Tikkun Olam projects. Even if you only have an hour a month to spare, we can help provide you with a meaningful way to help repair the world.
