Educating our youngest members is one of our highest priorities. They will lead our congregation in the years to come, and we are excited about our growing enrollment and dynamic curriculum. We want our children to feel like they are an important part of our community and to help them understand what it means to be Jewish.

Religious classes start with infant/toddler parent-interactive class, all the way through middle school. "The Jew Club" is the self-named post-bnai mitzvah youth group. Hebrew classes are offered at 4 levels and students are placed according to progress.

Director's Message

SEPTEMBER 2008

August was a very busy month getting ready for classes to start on September 7th.  I would like to thank the clean up crew that gave up a few hours on August 10th to wash down tables, chairs, and vacuum all of the classrooms. This crew consisted of Hannah Ellison, Kathi and Sam Shuirman, Rabbi James & Jen Greene, Francine Shetterly, and Casey, Lynn and Parker Mills. All rooms are now set up for classes, if you should borrow or rearrange the furniture please put it back as you found it. Also, if you have any art or craft supplies that you wish to donate to the school, please speak with me first before putting them in the supply closet. This will help keep the closet neat, and most importantly, allow me to thank you.

Then on August 17th, the Jew Crew held a car wash at the Broadway site. If you took your car there to be washed, thank you. The proceeds will go toward Jew Crew scholarships. I would also like to thank the following for all their hard work at the car wash -  Rabbi James & Jen Greene, Ellen Eisenberg, Alex and Ben Korsunsky, Lena Schneider, Seren Goldstein, Marika Straw, Janae Edelson, Daniel Mozell, Kim Sherman, Rabbi Gary, Hannah, and Alex Ellison, Seth Ward, Forrest Imel, and Ellie Freeman.

Finally, a half day staff training was held on August 24th. We looked at curriculum, teaching resources, and made plans for special events for the 2008-2009 school year.

Classes start on September 7th. Hebrew classes start at 9:30 a.m. and Judaic classes start at 10:45. School is over at 12:45 p.m. Please have your child(ren) at school on time. Your child(ren) will be given a school calendar and a flier about the Ice Cream Social that will take place after classes on the 14th. There will be games for the children to play and lunch will be available for purchase along with great ice cream treats. I hope that you and your family will attend this event. Please ask your child(ren) for the calendar and flier.

I am looking forward to yet another exciting and successful learning experience with your children. If you have, any questions or concerns please let me know so they can be addressed. If you are willing and able to be a substitute teacher please give me a call at 541-451-4310 or send me an e-mail at pearlmbett@yahoo.com.
